Argentario

The hidden hauls, blue sea and beautiful view of Monte Argentario are known throughout the world. Less is known about the long history that it has experienced and the high quality of its food and wine, especially its Bottarga all’Anguilla (a sort of eel pate). Linked to the mainland by two tombolas, the Tombola of Giannella and Feniglia, the promontory was an important Etruscan centre, first, and then a Roman one. In the Middle Ages the Spaniards used it as an outpost for the Presidi states, who built the wonderful forts that even today you can see from Porto Ercole, which also has an excellent view of the nearby islands of Giglio and Corsica. After tours and trips to the sea during the day, Monte Argentario comes alive at night with many nightspots that attract party goers from all over the world.
