Riserva Naturale del Pigelleto

pigelleto11

The Pigelleto Nature Reserve stretches across 862 hectares between the provinces of Siena and Grosseto. The reserve extends into the town of Piancastagnaio on the southeast of the Amiata Mountain. Established into the Tuscan Region in 1966, the nature park was once an important mercury mine in the Amiata Mountain and inside the reserve you will still find two inactive mines. The Management and Environmental Education Centre operates within the reserve. This centre has a visitor’s centre, laboratories, hotel and a reception. To discover the rich flora and fauna, visitors can also explore the various paths and walking tracks within the reserve.
